Docs: SpeedGen: Using PivotTables and PivotCharts

What are PivotTables?

PivotTables are a feature of Excel Spreadsheets that allow you to group data and perform calculations on those groups. PivotTables make it very easy to see things like sales broken down by region, sales person, etc.

How can I use PivotTables with SpeedGen?
  • Any existing PivotTables in your Source Workbook will be copied into the Generated Workbook.
  • You can construct PivotTables based on inserted data ( Field Markers )

You can have multiple PivotTables in a workbook. As many as you want.

Excel 5.0/95 PivotTable Support

SpeedGen does not officially support PivotTables in Excel 5.0 / 95 format workbooks. They will work to some degree but there are just so many differences between PivotTables in the Excel 5.0 / 95 format and in the Excel 97 / 2000 / 2002 (XP) format that it is not officially supported.

The Recommended Approach

SpeedGen provides a simple, yet elegant approach to creating PivotTables:

  1. Create the first PivotTable using Field Markers
  2. Create Additional PivotTables based on the first PivotTable
  3. Create PivotCharts based on any PivotTable

This way you only have to specify the Source Data once and getting the Source Data is easy because you use Field Markers

Do not Refresh a PivotTable in the Source Workbook that is directly or indirectly based on Field Markers
