What is a Source Workbook?

A Source Workbook is any Excel Workbook (.XLS File) that contains Field Markers. It is also called an SpeedGen Template. It is called a Source Workbook so that it is not confused with an Excel Template (.XLT file)

Designing Source Workbooks couldn't be easier!

Just create your workbook in Excel, insert some Field Markers and save it.

Target Excel File Format

You have 3 choices of Excel file format. SpeedGen uses whatever format your Source Workbook is saved to.

  • Excel 97 / 2000 / 2002 (XP) (this is the preferred format)
  • Excel 5.0 / 95
  • Dual-Stream Workbook: Excel 5.0 / 95 & Excel 97 / 2000 / 2002 (XP)

Things to Avoid

  • Do not re-process a Source Workbook. Don't inserted Field Markers into a workbook that was created by SpeedGen.
