Docs: SpeedGen: Excel Versions Supported

Just save your Source Workbook as you normally would in Excel ( i.e.. to the Excel Workbook (*.xls) format ).

About the Excel 5.0 / 95 Format

• Avoid using the Excel 5.0 / 95 format unless you absolutely need to. Since it does not support many of the newer features of the newer Excel editions you may experience some frustration in "losing" features that Excel 95 does not support. Excel 5.0 / 95 is not supported for use with Pivot Tables.
• Most Excel 5.0 / 95 Source Workbooks should be fine under Excel 2002 (XP) but in some cases Excel XP tries to "recover" Excel 5.0 / 95 format files. This has nothing to do with SpeedGen. Try opening the Source Workbook under Excel XP and you will get the same error. This behavior should be noticeable at the design stage, so if it works in testing - it should work when deployed.
• Because it is an older format many features of Excel 97 and above are missing and file sizes are larger (especially when using graphics because they are uncompressed!)
• If you would like to support users of Excel 95 (or even 5.0) then you will need to save the Source Workbook to the Excel 5.0 / 95 format or to a Dual-Stream Workbook

Try one of these Solutions Instead

• You can use Dual-Stream Workbooks
• You could use 2 Source Workbooks, one in Excel 5.0 / 95 format and one in Excel 97 / 2000 / 2002 (XP) format and provide different Hyperlinks to each one. This is actually much easier than it sounds since you can just maintain one Source Workbook in the latest version of Excel and then save it to the Excel 5.0 / 95 format at the last minute.

In Excel 97 and above you have the option of saving to the Excel 5.0 / 95 and Excel 97(2000)(2002) format. If you save your workbook to this format then SpeedGen will process both the Excel 5.0 / 95 and Excel 97 / 2000 / 2002 (XP) streams. Of course this will slow down processing and result in larger files but sometimes this feature can be very useful.
