SpeedGen fully supports all versions of Excel, from Excel 5.0 to Excel 2002. Virtually all features are supported, including PivotCharts (an Excel 2000 feature)
All versions of Excel still in use today write to one of 2 file formats: BIFF7 for Excel 5.0 and Excel 95 and BIFF8 for Excel 97 / 2000 / 2002 (XP) .
Although BIFF8 is shared by Excel 97 through Excel 2002, it is an extensible format so some features found in newer versions are not available in previous versions. One example is PivotCharts which is an Excel 2000 feature. Excel 97 can open Excel 2000 workbooks that contain PivotCharts but it will not display the PivotCharts.
Saving to the Excel 97 / 2000 / 2002 (XP) Format
Just save your Source Workbook as you normally would in Excel ( i.e.. to the Excel Workbook (*.xls) format ).
Saving to the Excel 5.0 / 95 Format
Dual-Stream Workbooks - Supporting Excel 5.0 through 2002 with one Workbook.
In Excel 97 and above you have the option of saving to the Excel 5.0 / 95 and Excel 97(2000)(2002) format. If you save your workbook to this format then SpeedGen will process both the Excel 5.0 / 95 and Excel 97 / 2000 / 2002 (XP) streams. Of course this will slow down processing and result in larger files but sometimes this feature can be very useful.
